Enlisted as a World Heritage in the year 1984 was established to preserve the land area of 932 sq.km of forest, marshland and grassland along with the living creatures within the park. Sagarmatha Natioanl Park is a first Natural World Heritage Site of Nepal which was established in the year 1976. Later, in the year 1979, it was recognized as the Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO. With the motifs to conserve the forest, wildlife and cultural resources this national park keep on doing its work and later they started working in conservation of natural energy and search for alternative source of energy too. Almost all the landscape is full of desolate areas, huge rocks, steeps hills and less vegetation. Most of the vegetation is fir, rhododendron, birch, juniper trees and wildlife like Himalayan thar, musk deer, ghoral, Himalayan black bear are found within the national park.
- 12. Ghorepani
Gorepani is a popular tourist destination of Nepal situated at an altitude of around 2760 m. A short trek from Banthanti and you will reach a beautiful village surrounded with dense forest of Rhododendron and Oak trees. The Rhododendron forest in Ghorepani is the world’s largest one. At the base of Poonhill, this village is established with lots of lodges and guesthouses. From here you can see the beautiful mountain ranges and hills around. A short hike to Poonhill give the better view of the Annapurna ranges along with other mountains. The hill all covered with red and pink Rhododendron forest during autumn seasons. You will be awestruck with the beauty, its look like red and pink patches in the green carpet. Many other villages are connected via Ghorepani and the trekker goes via these route to go to different route too.
In ancient time, when the traders used to go from this route, they used to feed water to their horses. Later, they started named this location as Ghorepani, as Ghode = Horse and Pani = water. There is a police station and a heath-post in the village. People bring the daily required goods with the help of mules or horses.
- 13. Poon Hill
A small hill station at the top of Ghorepani is Poonhill. It is situated at the height 3210 m. The view from here is too beautiful. In a daily basis, large number of tourist start their hike early in the morning from Ghorepani. By the time they reach the top, it’s almost time for the sunrise. People are eagerly waiting for the moments when the sunrays touches the Annapurna series. It feels like the mountains are being melted with its touch. Throughout all the destination in the Annpurna Circuit, it is the best destination to see the sunrise. The tourist can visit this place almost throughout the year but if you are intended to see the sunrise then its best to visit during Spring and Autumn seasons.
- 14. Annapurna Base camp
As you pass through Machhapuchre Base Camp, the route gets wider and wider. Finally you reach to a small settlements with some lodges to provide accommodation to the guests. The 360 degree panoramic view of Annapurna South, Annapurna !, Hiuchuli and other peaks imprints the best memories of you life. The ampitheaterical natural setting boost up the beauty of the Annapurna Base Camp. You return back retracing the same route of Machhapurchre Base Camp.
- 15. Muktinath
Muktinath, also called as Muktinath Kshetra or Muktinath Valley is a popular pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhist. People have been travelling to this pilgrimage site from the ancient period as this is one of the 108 Divya Desam and also the one of the eight sacred places known as Svayam Vyakta Ksetras (the other seven being Srirangam, Srimushnam, Tirupati, Naimisharanya, Totadri, Pushkar and Badrinath).
It is situated at the base of Thorang La pass at an altitude 3,710 m. This scared site has a temple and the 108 stone tap. You can take bath at this taps. It is believed that taking bath in the tap will wash away the sins. After taking bath, you can again take bath in 2 ponds outside of the temple. One of the pond will wash the inner impurity and other will bless your body. Afterward, you can do Puja and Aradhana.
- 16. Ghandruk
Ghandruk, the popular destination among the trekkers who go to Annapurna Sanctuary or Annapurna Base Camp. This village is situated above the Modi river and surrounded by the green forests everywhere. The view of Annapurna series and Mt Machhapuchere is excellent and beautiful. The local name of Ghandruk is called Ghandrung and this is the second largest Gurung settlement in Nepal. The well preserved Gurung culture and history can be found being showcased in the living museum. The people are very friendly and helpful. There are many lodges and guesthouses for accommodation and shops to buy the things you need. If you want to try the local dress and be like as the local people, you can go to the museum and ask them to help you to dress Gurung dress. It’s worth trying as the memories last longer than the footprints.
- 17. Annapurna Conservation area
Annapurna Conservation Area Project was initially lunch in 1986, in Ghandruk village with a motif to conserve the environment with local participation. It was the first and the largest conservation area of Nepal. This non-governmental organization runs the campaign to train the hotelier and lodge owner, encourage for sanitation and protection of the environment, promote the destination and culture of the region. The amount earned from the permit fee to the Annapurna Region is utilized for the conservation and development activities of Annapurna Region. They also focus their activities on poverty alleviation, destination promotion, and conservation of resources, community development, and management of trekking trails.
- 18. Bardiya National parkBardiya National Park was established in the year 1988. It is the largest and the most undisturbed national park of Terai, Nepal. It is the home to endangered species like Royal Bengal Tiger and One horned Rhino. This national park is blessed with Karnali River and Babai River. People can do fishing in these river as an activity and enjoy the vacation.
- Bardiya National Park is considered as the 2nd Chitwan National Park, as this park is as alike as Chitwan National Park before 30 years back then. This area is not commercialized as like Chitwan so you could hardly get the good accommodation facility in this park. So, the trip to this national park will be more adventurous and wildlife exploration will be fun. The best time to visit is February to July (to see Bengal Tiger) and November to December.
- 19. Shivapuri Nagarjun National ParkShivapuri Nagarjun National Park was established in 2002. It is located to the north rim of Kathmandu valley. It cover the area of 159 sq. km of Kathmandu, Nuwakot and Sindhupalchowk districts. This national park was established with a motive to protect watershed and wildlife within. From here, thousands of cubic liter water is supplied to Kathmandu valley on a daily basis. So, this area is considered as the important source of water supply.Shivapur Nargarjun National Park mainly contain 2 islands called Shivapuri and Nagarjun. There are some historical and religious sites as well as the popular hiking routes for the trekker within the park. There is Nagi Gumba in Shivapuri, Jamcho Gumba in Nagarjun, Bagdwar (the source of Bagmati River) Muhan Pokhara in the national park. The Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park has become the famous destination for one day hike, hundreds of trekkers go for hike on a daily basis. While exploring, you will explore various kinds of rare plants and animals as well as sites with great importance.
- 20. Langtang National ParkDingboche a Sherpa settlement in Khumbu Region to the north east side of Nepal. Soaring at an altitude 4410 m, this place is a popular stop among trekkers and climbers going for Everest and other nearby routes. Many trekker and climber spend one or two days to acclimatize their body and continue their trek and expedition. There lodges and tents for accommodation and the local people depends on the flow of the tourist for their source of income.The very unique landmark of this area is the stone walls of different size of stone that runs kilometers far covering the entire Imja valley. Those stones were removed from the field while ploughing it in a long run. There is an Imja River to the east side of village. This river supply the pure water to the valley. And the food is supplied to the village by mules and yaks.
- 21. Dingboche
Manang Valley is a beautiful village which is close to Nepal – Tibet border and is blessed by Marsyandi River. The beautiful series of mountains and the mountain villages adds the beauty to the trek to Annapurna Ciricuit. The village has been able to preserve the traditional Tibetan value and culture till this days. The valley has been the famous point for the trekker and traders either going for Thorang La pass or going to Tibet for trader. Generally, the trekker takes one or two days to acclimatized their body with high altitude. During their stay, they go to near by smaller villages and explore gompas and monasteries to explore the culture and its people. There is oldest monastery in Manang called Braga Monastery which is 45 minutes walk from Manag. You can also hike to Ice Lake and the stunning view of Annapuna IV. You can also climb to Gangapurna Lake and Glacier which is 15 minutes walk from the valley. The view from the top to the valley and mountains are spectacular to behold.
